Auburn Hills, MI., September 13, 2011 –
HIROTEC AMERICA, Inc. (HAI), an automotive supplier
specializing in closure bodyshop assembly tooling
and hemming systems, recently introduced the patent
pending, horizontal hemming press. This highly
innovative press and die style hemming solution is
used to hem the outer and inner panels of automotive
body-in-white (BIW) closures, such as doors, hood,
liftgate, endgate, etc.
Current methods used to hem four products (e.g., the
front and rear doors of a vehicle) require a
combination of tooling, including multiple presses
and/or a die change system. For a press and die
system, the user will need four presses, one for
each product, or are a single press with a
multi-model die changer.
Through its cutting edge design, Hirotec’s
horizontal press will radically change the
automotive hemming industry. This innovative hemming
press houses four dies in a single structure,
providing a 73% floor space savings, along with 75%
energy or operations cost reduction. Additionally,
the horizontal hemming press can accommodate reusing
existing hem press components, which further reduces
the initial capital investment.
“Through our Japanese heritage of kaizen/kaikaku,
Hirotec America continually strives to bring forth
products and services that will revolutionize how
BIW closures are produced. The horizontal hemming
press is a perfect example of our dedication to
continuously evolving technology, while maintaining
Hirotec’s high quality standard,” stated Jim
Toeniskoetter, President and COO of Hirotec America.
The horizontal press recently completed its
durability testing and is now available for
immediate installation in automotive manufacturing
plants worldwide.
